Boat trip on Cổ Chiên river - a photo on Flickriver

             Vietnam.

In Mekong Delta all boats have eys painted on them.
There are different stories to explain there presence.
Some say it helps boats to find  their right way in the river net. Boats without eyes like this are believed to be "blind" .
Others say the eyes painted on the prow protect from bad spirits. They are dragon eyes,  meant to scare off sea monsters, alligators and crocodiles.    
And others will tell you  that the eyes are for good luck, a wide-awake crew and safe journeys.
