The Monolith of Martin's Beach - a photo on Flickriver

Last year I was reading a article about a venture capitalist who bought a coastal property, including a beach and wanted to restrict the access. There was a court case and he was ordered to allow beach access to public. The place is called Martin's Beach located in San mateo County in Northern California.

I waited until late winter and yesterday decided to go there for a sunset with my daughter. When we reached, the access was blocked for Cars. So we parked our cars at entrance and walked about half mile to the beach. Boy, it was really scenic. My daughter got busy with collectiing the shells and I got busy with my camera.
There are lots of elements here that are difficult to capture all at once. Winter is a good time to get light and reflections on the monolith rock because the sun sets to the left of the frame. The tide was really high with huge waves on a frequent interval. So I decided to take my camera very 2 min or so when waves retracted and made room for me to take a shot. Just after the sunset, the sky was so beautiful and changing colors I almost forgot myself and a huge wave soaked me. This place could become risky if you are not careful enough with water during high tide.
Other elements include that I waited for the sand to become reflective so capture the relection of the monolith rock, sky and for a wave to strike the rock.

This is a single shot @f/11, 24mm, 0.4 sec, Nikon D800E with Nikkor 14-24, no filters, raw imported in Capture One, exported as tiff to Photoshop CS6. Final adjustments are done in CS6 and NIK software.
