Het Zwarte Water

            De naam heeft (naar alle waarschijnlijkheid) niets met de kleur zwart te maken, maar met "zwet" wat grens betekent. 
Het Zwarte Water was van groot belang voor de ontwikkeling van de Hanzestad Zwolle. De rivier verbond de stad met de zee en de andere Hanzesteden.

The name has (in all probability) nothing to do with the colour black, but with "swet" which means border.
The Zwartewater was of great importance for the development of the Hanseatic city of Zwolle. The river connected the city with the sea and the other Hanseatic cities.
