The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill Visited Today

            You have probably heard of the wild parrots of Telegraph Hill that fly all over San Francisco. As of June 2023, this little fella is San Francisco's official animal! A few visited us on Potrero Hill today. 

Cherry-headed conures were brought here from South America and sold as pets in the exotic pet trade before the U.S. government banned the trade of wild exotic birds in 1992. The first of this wild flock either escaped or were released and quickly found an ecological niche on Telegraph Hill. Today, I believe there are around 200 of them that fly all over the city.
