Gammel Mønt - a photo on Flickriver

Gammel Mønt

            Gammel Mønt takes its name from the earlier coin production on the site. Shortly before 1500, the first coins were minted in Copenhagen in the former Vingården, which then became Møntergården. All but one of the front houses on the south side of Gammel Mønt can be traced back to shortly after the fire of Copenhagen in 1728 when houses like these were built. Craftsmen and tradesmen moved into the finished dwellings and this building still has this unique character.
