N512MC B747-230B(F) SCD Dragon Air Cargo (Atlas Air) MAN 02DEC01

This aircraft was built as a 'Combi' with a side cargo door (SCD) and could be operated with both passengers and cargo on the main deck.

Atlas Fleet No: "512".

First flown in Sep-76 with the Boeing test registration N1786B, this aircraft was delivered to Lufthansa as D-ABYJ in Nov-76.  After 19 years in service with Lufthansa it was sold to GPM Aircraft Inc as N512MC in Oct-95.

The aircraft was converted to a full freighter in Mar-96 and leased to Atlas Air Inc the same month.  It was wet-leased to Dragon Air Cargo (Hong Kong) in 2001 and returned to Atlas Air in early 2002.

The aircraft was sold to Atlas Air Inc in Oct-06.  It was sold to Wells Fargo Bank Northwest in Feb-08 and immediately leased to Tradewinds Airlines (USA).  Tradewinds ceased 747 operations in May-08 and the aircraft was returned to WFBN and stored at Roswell, NM, USA.

In Sep-08 it was leased to Polar Air Cargo and stored at Roswell again in Aug-09.  It was leased to Atlas Air Inc in Aug-10.  It was returned to the lessor in Apr-11 and stored at Roswell where it was permanently retired after 35 years in service.  The registration was cancelled in Jun-11.
