Too Poor for Two Horses ... - a photo on Flickriver

            On top of a 10 metre tall column, in what was the cloister courtyard the Temple Church and Monastery of the Knights Templar, is this bronze statue of two Templar Knights on a single horse. 

The two Knights Templar are depicted mounted on one horse because the Order was said to have been too poor to afford more horses when it was established.  The Knights Templar full name was "The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon".

The statue is a modern sculpture by Nicola Hicks.  The column and statue were installed in 2000 to mark the start of the third millennium.  It is said to stand at the spot where the great fire of 1666 was extinguished.
