LONGANNET Power Station (closed) 20171005 - viewed from the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway

            Opened in the 1970's, Longannet was to become the last coal fired power station in Scotland. Coal was moved both from local pits and imported through Hunterston on the Clyde. The rail flow from Hunterston to Longannet was made simpler by the re-opening of the Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine line in 2008. Although the traffic ceased in 2016 when the power station closed, the passenger service between Stirling and Alloa surely owes its existence at least in part to this Longannet traffic.
