Paul Bunyan gets moved - a photo on Flickriver

"North Portland icon Paul Bunyan took a giant step this week.  After 43 years standing tall at the intersections of Interstate and Denver avenues, Paul was moved exactly 59.2 feet to make way for the Interstate MAX light rail extension.  The 37-foot, 6-ton statue, with a 25-ton base, took just 26 minutes to make the big move while 300 people watched the activities.  Paul was built in 1959 to celebrate the Oregon Centennial as a way to attract people to the Kenton Business District.  The 5.8-mile Interstate MAX light rail line now under construction will open in September 2004."
