On the outskirts of town - a photo on Flickriver

            near the place where the rats gather to forage amongst the smoldering husks of his fetid regrets, there stood Jack. 13 long years removed from the night he clawed his way out of his tawdry pine eternal enclosure. "What was the point," Jack mumbled out loud to himself. "Did anyone care?" By the light of the nearly full moon Jack lit a hairy rag. Witnessing  his  partially dismembered shadow dance on the tall grass in the fecund breeze. He came to the realization that it was all a gigantic waste of time, at least his past two lives anyway. At a crossroads he excogitated on a way forward, but there was none. Not in this life anyway. A jaw dropping final kick in the butt. Literally, his jaw actually dropped to the ground. Sadly Jack shuffled off into the night lower jaw in hand, his fate sealed.
