Jan - "We meet again"

I was having a coffee in the mall food court and noticed Jan sitting alone at a nearby table finishing his coffee. I recognized him from a prior meeting when I photographed him (Sept. 8th of last year} for my Human Family project. We were happy to meet again and had a very nice chat. We covered several topics, including age. Jan said that at 96 he has already beaten the odds and some of his coffee companions have died. I was impressed that he is as sharp as a tack. When he learned that I'm a "mere" 78, he told me, on his Dutch accent, to embrace it because it is a very lucky number. "How so" I asked. "In Holland, where I'm from, 7 is a lucky number. In China, 8 is a lucky number." I appreciated the positive view on my age. About our coffee habit, Jan said his father always discouraged drinking coffee, saying it would turn your hair red. he lifted his hat. showing his snow white hair. "I guess he was wrong." We both laughed. We finished up by Jan giving me his son's email address so I could send the photos. The word that best describes Jan is "charming." The next words that come to mind are "positive outlook." We parted ways with "Until we meet again."
ADDITIONAL NOTE:
Jan's son, John, wrote back that he had received and loved the portrait of his father. He was clearly touched by my comments about Jan and felt they described him perfectly. John looked at other submissions to The Human Family Group and felt the project is a wonderful idea. It feels great when someone who really understands the philosophy of the project gives feedback. Thank you, John.
