The Devil Went Down to Vicky Road - a photo on Flickriver

Even if you don’t like Country - or Western, for that matter - Charlie Daniels’ biggest, most career-defining Billboard cross-over No.1 hit from 1979, 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia’, is eminently likeable with its unique spoken-word delivery, as the uptempo song gives a country twist on an old theme of Satan standing at the crossroads to tune a musician's guitar and give them a musical gift in return for their soul.

And with Hallowe'en fast approaching, the Grammy-winning song also now features as a new edition to my local Transylvania Shop and Coffee (www.transylvaniashopandcoffee.co.uk) on Victoria Road, as it splurges out on all the spooky seasonal gory street decor, as it rapidly takes on the appearance of a Tim Burton movie replete with jack-o'-lanterns, skeletons, black cats, bats, open coffins, ghost figurines, witch-themed memorabilia and pumpkins.

The two Southern-attired skeletal fiddlers, sitting amongst all the autumnal fruit & vegetable offerings, are new editions to the spooky ensemble this year - and as you pass by, their eyes light up and they frantically start fiddling and singing "Devil, just come on back if you ever wanna try again / I done told you once, you son of a b---h, I'm the best there's ever been!"
