"Back To Bird Island" - a photo on Flickriver

            Last year my friend Tom and I made two trips to Bird Island and made a ton of images. We made a trip out there today.

 The whole gang is back this year including last year's babies.  New babies are on their way because we saw many eggs and some new chicks.  The island hosts pelicans, gulls, black crowned night herons, blue herons, egrets, swallows, red-winged blackbirds, cormorants, and some we probably haven't seen.  By far, pound for pound, there are more pelicans than all the rest put together.

Last year we saw the Federal agents shooting cormorants out there and this year there are more cormorants than ever.  They not only shot the cormorants they also sprayed the eggs to reduce the population.  

I love to watch the pelicans fly.  They bank, hang, helicopter, glide, and sail beautifully.
