Whitemoor Yard scrap move to Aldwarke U.E.S. at Kilnhurst - 6094+128

            It has been a month since the last jaunt out track-side, partly due to a paucity of interesting traction and the cold, miserable weather hasn't helped either, though some snow was an obvious exception to this. Finally, the middle of this week saw the overnight temperatures finally getting above freezing point, but not by much and today, Friday the 16th Feb. the weather has felt very spring-like. With the prospect of a new traffic flow from the south, but so far not borne out by the week-ahead timetable, this was a good enough reason to attempt overcome 'cabin-fever' and go stand in the freezing cold wind at Kilnhurst. The cause of all the 'excitement' was a GBRf working coming along from the L.D.C., Local Distribution Centre, at Whitemoor Yard, just north of March in Cambridgeshire, and heading to United Engineering Steels, U.E.S. at Aldwarke. This was probably only one thing, a scrap train and so it turned out; although ostensibly from the GBRf area at Whitemoor, the loco turned out to be Freightliner, 'Shed', 66599. In this 1st pair of pictures, on the left with the ducks watching what's happening, the 20-wagon haul has been pulled into the Kilnhurst up goods loop on the left, right at the side of the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation; the loco has run around, and is now awaiting its allotted time, 12:00, to move the short distance back south, for a further reversal of action, into the Aldwarke U.E.S. site. In the picture on the right, the points are set for the loop but those on the far right, taking moves south towards Aldwarke, are set for main line running from Mexborough. This was the site of the old MSLR/GCR's Kilnhurst Central Station, with the wall along the canal forming the back of the up line building; the main building was on the right of the tracks and the access in the road bridge wall to this, now gated/bricked off, is still present. Freightliner 66599 has worked the 6E14 up from Whitemoor Yard LDC and is awaiting its short path into the Aldwarke site, and is hauling 1600 tonnes of scrap; easy to see that all 20, JNA wagons, are full to the top... In addition, the driver got out of the cab at one point and walked a short distance along the wagons before climbing back up into the cab, the sun just out and illuminating the action; other, N.R. personnel were about, one of their trucks being parked on the right behind the blue sign, associated with the telephone communications network.
