'The Yorkshireman' with 70013 and 'The Pennine Limited' with 45699 at Masbrough Station - 6288

Three minutes after the last picture was taken at 12:37, the reason for the pause of 70013 became clear, in addition between the charter pulling up for a stop and the Voyager passing through, a Transpennine Express service had also rattled north on the down fast, platform 2 line en-route to Cleethorpes from Manchester Airport. On the platform 2 line, its now a Cross Country Trains class 221, 221133, heading south towards Sheffield on the 1V56, Newcastle to Plymouth, 7 hour service. It appears though, that due to adverse weather conditions, south, beyond Birmingham New Street, this service was cancelled there at 14:02; not sure what happens to passengers in that instance, a bus replacement service I guess, for the other three and a half hour journey on to Plymouth... The change between the two traction types, now in the station, in terms of design and appearance, couldn't be more stark and the coaching stock as well has changed dramatically in the half a century since the 'slam-door' type stock with its leather strap opening windows, 'prickly seats' and over-head sliding windows, plied all the passenger routes. Sat alongside platform three on the down, north-bound line, conveniently far away from the Midland Road over-bridge is the 'Railway Touring Club', WCRC, operated, 'The Yorkshireman', with B.R.'s Britannia Class 7MT, 4-6-2, 70013, 'Oliver Cromwell' in charge and with class 47, 47804, 'Robin Hood' at the rear, on the 1Z57, Ealing Broadway via Rotherham Masbrough to York charter. Pulled up here on the old up platform 3 line at Masbrough Station, at the side of contrasting and colourful graffiti, which has re-appeared again after being painted out by Network Rail, last year... 70013 was built in May 1951 and withdrawn at the end of steam on British Railways, in 1968; VERY fortunately it was preserved and is now owned by the National Railway Museum in York who, presumably, will be undertaking the boiler certification work, more information here-
