Phoenician themed flasks - Cedars of Lebanon

            Created for my friend Hilal. His family is descended from the ancient Phoenicians. I created this set of flasks for him for Christmas. 

These are ceramic stucco painted on discarded, 100 ml volumetric flasks. This flask depicts the cedars of Lebanon. It was the most prized wood of the ancient Mediterranean because of its size, strength, aroma, and rot-resistance. Ancient Phoenician traders  shipped logs across the Mediterranean.

The top of the bottle represents the stars, and the cap the north star. The Phoenicians reportedly guarded their ability to navigate by it a strict secret - thereby maintaining control of shipping.
