Moffett Field's Hangar One - a photo on Flickriver

This hangar was originally built to accommodate the U.S. Navy dirigible USS Macon. Although the Macon had a short service life that ended with a crash off the California coast, Hangar One continued to serve the Navy until the air station was decommissioned in 1994.

The exterior sheet metal covering of Hangar one has been removed in order to address toxic runoff that included lead. An effort is currently underway to remove hazardous coatings from the hangar's structure, and if all goes well the hangar will be re-covered and restored to its original appearance in the mid-2020s.
