American White Pelican - a photo on Flickriver

            A couple of American White Pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) resting on an urban pond in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada.

There are a lot of small ponds in the new residential areas which serve as storm water ponds which retain excess water during heavy rainstorms and then slowly releases it the the natural flow of the storm drains into the river valley.  These are also beneficial in that they provide habitat for a hot of wetland wildlife.
