Object Details: The attached composite shows Sunspot AR2738 as it rotates off the visible disk on April 16th & 17th, 2019. It's approximate two week trip across the surface began earlier last week as can seen in a similar images from that time frame linked here: www.flickr.com/photos/homcavobservatory/40615502103/

Visually the view was wonderful, especially during the 17th when I had a chance to use a 3X Televue barlow and a 16mm eyepiece on the apo. 'Naturally contrast enhanced' by the limb darkening, the faculae (i.e. the brighter & hotter regions) present around the spot itself looked spectacular!

Although AR2738 did not produce any large flares, it was the largest group to appear on the Sun since those of September 2017 (linked here www.flickr.com/photos/homcavobservatory/37701344322/ ), which in contrast were very active, and produce a large flare which in turn resulted in the aurora linked here: www.flickr.com/photos/homcavobservatory/36776740180/ ).

Image Details: Taken by Jay Edwards at the HomCav Observatory on April 16th & 17th, 2019 using (top) an Orion ED80T CF (i.e. an 80mm, f/6 carbon-fiber tube apochromatic refractor) and (bot) a vintage 1970 8-inch, f/7 Criterion newtonian reflector; both utilizing a ZWO ASI290MC in prime focus. The scopes were tracked on a Losmandy G-11 mount running a Gemini 2 control system.

Given the fact that the seeing during the days these image were taken varied from 'bad' to 'too-cloudy-to-forecast'; I was fairly pleased with the results. The individual images in the composite are a result of stacking selected frames from short video clips taken using the ASI290MC and as presented here it has been colorized for aesthetics and the entire composite has been resized down to HD resolution.
