The development by Oliver Ames and Sons Corporation of the factory and village land use in a rather organic manner with a mix work-related classes created an integrated geographic network. The housing on perimeter edge with factories and business affairs in the center creating the village concept in North Easton. Other important concepts were the Furnace Village Cemetery, Furnace Village Grammar School and the Furnace Village Store, which explains Furnace Village and other sections of Easton.

76 Center Street
In 1870, the James H. Bailey House at 52, now, 76 Center Street was built for James Henry, and Elizabeth Parsons Bailey. In 1870, residing at 52, now, 76 Center Street were James Henry, a shovel shop worker, and his wife, Elizabeth Parsons Bailey, with their three daughters, Nettie, Minnie, and Lille A., and their son, Frank Bailey. In 1870, the real estate at now, 76 Center Street was worth two thousand dollars and their personal property at two hundred dollars. On February 3, 1877, Elizabeth Parsons Bailey passed away with her burial in the Washington Street Cemetery. In 1880, residing at 52, now, 76 Center Street were widowed James Henry, a shovel shop worker, with his three daughters, Nettie B., Minnie A., and Lillie A., and his son, Frank E. Bailey. In the late 1880s, James Henry Bailey transferred ownership of 52, now, 76 Center Street to his daughter, Lillie A. Bailey Mitchell. In 1889, Lillie A. Bailey Mitchell deeded 52, now, 76 Center Street back to her father, James Henry Bailey with the notation that “the property herein conveyed is to be held as a homestead by the grantee.” In 1900, owning and residing at 52, now, 76 Center Street were widowed James Henry, a hammer man in the shovel shop and his housekeeper, Anne Litchfield. On January 7, 1904, Oscar Edward Ericson passed away with his burial in the Village Cemetery. In 1900, renting and residing at 52, now, 76 Center Street were Oscar Edward, a Teamster, and his wife, Gerda Alfreda Rohdin Ericson, with their son, Everett Winthrop Ericson. In 1910, owning and residing at 52, now, 76 Center Street were widowed James Henry, a hammer man in the shovel shop and his housekeeper, Anne Litchfield. In 1910, renting at 52, now, 76 Center Street were widowed Gerda Alfreda Rohdin Ericson, with her son, Everett Winthrop Ericson. On May 30,1914, James Henry Bailey passed away with her burial in the Washington Street Cemetery.
In June of 1912, James Henry Bailey transferred ownership of 52, now, 76 Center Street to Lewis C. Mitchell, husband of Bailey’s daughter, Lillie A. Bailey Mitchell. In October of 1912, Mitchell sold the property at 52, now, 76 Center Street to Andrew A. Nyquist.
In 1920, renting at 52, now, 76 Center Street were widowed Gerda Alfreda Rohdin Ericson, with her son, Everett Winthrop Ericson, Andrew A. Nyquist was owner of the property and living in the household. In 1930, renting from Andrew A. Nyquist at 52, now, 76 Center Street was Gerda Alfreda Rohdin Ericson, laundress at home, and her son, Everett Winthrop, a grocery store merchant, and his wife, Elsie M. Ericson, a cleaner in the library. Andrew A. Nyquist was the owner of the property living in the household and the superintendent of Village Cemetery. In 1940, renting at 52, now, 76 Center Street was widowed Gerda Alfreda Rohdin Ericson, with her son, Everett Winthrop, a grocery store proprietor, and his wife, Elsie M. Ericson, a grocery store clerk, with their son, Everett Ericson, Jr., and their daughter, Jane A. Ericson. Andrew A. Nyquist was the owner of the property living in the household and the superintendent of Village Cemetery. In 1941. Andrew A. Nyquist transferred ownership to Gerda Alfreda Rohdin Ericson with the stipulation that he have lifetime occupancy of the property. In 1951, Andrew A. Nyquist passed away followed by Ericson selling the property at 76 Center Street to Stanley W., and Eunice Harkins Mowatt. The Mowatt family owned the property until 1997.

Center Street
Centre Street connects North Easton village with Easton Centre. A very small section of this street, that from Daniel Clark's to Short Street, was laid out in 1738, and was, as before stated, the connecting link between what are now Summer and Short streets. But just after the building of the new meeting- house at the Centre in 1752, it was extended both south from Short Street and north to Samuel Phillips, Jr.'s, west of the DeWitt farm. This was a part of what was known as the old Meetinghouse road. The north part of this old road was laid out in 1764. It began south of the cart bridge near John Randall's (that is, near the Ames store), went up the hill, then westerly a short distance on Lincoln Street, and then south to join that part of the road laid out in 1752. There were then living along the line of this proposed road Mrs. Whitman, widow of John Whitman, whose house was on Lincoln Street, and also about a quarter of a mile south, Nahum Niles. Some distance below him lived Benjamin Phillips, and still farther south Samuel Phillips, Jr., where the new road formed a connection with the old. This road may still be traversed from end to end. The writer drove through it with a horse and buggy in the summer of 1886. It was discontinued in 1828, though a little money has been expended on it just above Daniel Clark's, where Patrick Menton now lives. This discontinuance was in consequence of the laying out of the new road, now Centre Street, in 1828. There was considerable disagreement about this laying out, but it was finally accomplished. There have been some changes in the grading, etc., but the road remains substantially the same as when laid out.
