            Kilkenny Castle is a sumptuous 12th century building with a beautiful park, which together dominate the surrounding medieval town of Kilkenny.

The Picture Gallery Wing was built during the early nineteenth-century building programme carried out by the architect William Robertson. It was constructed on earlier foundations. Robertson’s Picture Gallery, in keeping with his work on the rest of the castle, was in Castellated Baronial style. Some of the portraits in this room date from the seventeenth century while others are of later dates.
