Van Nelle Factory (Van Nellefabriek) 2e version

            In 2014 the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO granted the Van Nelle Factory (Dutch: Van Nellefabriek) in Rotterdam World Heritage Status. It is a global recognition of the outstanding universal value of the former coffee, tea and tobacco factory, built in a modernist style in the 1920’s.
Director K. van der Leeuw and architects J.A. Brinkman and L. C. van der Vlugt managed to achieve the ‘ideal factory’: functional, beautiful and open. The design of the building was based entirely on an analysis of the technical and social functions expected of a factory, with particular concern for the wellbeing of the employees.

In 2014 heeft het Werelderfgoedcomité van UNESCO de Van Nellefabriek in Rotterdam de status van Werelderfgoed toegekend. Het is een wereldwijde erkenning van de unieke en universele waarde van de voormalige koffie-, thee- en tabakfabriek.
De in de jaren ’20 ontworpen en gebouwde fabriek is een opvallende en karakteristieke prestatie van het modernisme. Opdrachtgever K. van der Leeuw en de architecten J.A. Brinkman en L.C. van der Vlugt slaagden er gezamenlijk in om de ‘ideale fabriek’ te realiseren: functioneel, mooi én open. 
Het ontwerp van het complex was geheel gebaseerd op een analyse van de technische en sociale functies waaraan de fabriek moest voldoen, met bijzondere aandacht voor het welzijn van de werknemers.
