Three Alaskan Coastal Brown Bear Cubs

            In Katmai National Park & Preserve on the Alaskan Peninsula.

The cubs are sitting on a riverbank while their mom tried to catch some salmon for them.

They are cute little fuzzballs now, but eventually they could reach 1500 lbs (680 kg) and tower up to 10' (3 m) when standing on their hind legs.

I spent a week here a couple of months ago and saw over a hundred bears – and several sow bears had cubs. They are amazing creatures and would come as close as 7' (2 m), but showed no aggression because they were after the abundant salmon that filled the rivers!

Katmai is a wild, remote and amazing place that can only be accessed by boat or floatplane.
