The Amazing Paper Clip - a photo on Flickriver

            Isn't it amazing that something so seemingly simple as a paper clip could change everyone's life so dramatically.  Did you know that the most common type of paper clip, the looped thin-wired type seen in this photo, was never patented?  Historians believe that the first wire paper clip was produced by the Gem Manufacturing Co. in Great Britain in the early 1880's.   Evidence suggests that the paper clip came into widespread use in offices in the late 1890's having been introduced to the U.S. in 1892.
