Point Montara Light: Service On Two Coasts

            Located at Point Montara about 20 miles south of San Francisco on the San Mateo Coast near Half Moon Bay, Point Montara Light was recently discovered to have originally stood on Mayo's Beach overlooking Wellfleet Harbor in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  It had been thought that the 30-foot lighthouse had been dismantled and destroyed in 1925 but some researchers, in 2007, uncovered information that it had been moved and reinstalled on the West Coast in 1928.  The lighthouse was first erected in Wellfleet in 1881.  It may be the only lighthouse to have ever served on both coasts of the U.S.
