Stockport Corporation 185, Heaton Lane depot

Oh dear! Stockport's bus number 185 has been in the wars and has sustained some damage at the front end. The Chief Inspector may well want to 'have a word' with the driver to get his version of events. The radiator is completely destroyed, the windscreen is broken and there is plenty for the Transport Department's bodymakers to do to repair damage to the cab.

185 can't have been all that badly hurt, though - it survived into the 1960s in service then became transport for the Council's Welfare Department before being preserved. It was eventually very generously donated to the Museum of Transport and it still exists today. It is currently unrestored but only waiting its turn in the queue before it will be seen on Stockport's roads again.

185 is one of a set of unique Leyland 'Tiger' buses delivered to Stockport Corporation in 1935 and 1936, all with centre entrance bodywork and 'streamline' paint scheme in the vogue of the time.
