Manhattanhenge Approaches - a photo on Flickriver

            Have you heard about Manhattanhenge?

Twice a year the sun perfectly aligns with Manhattan's grid of streets just before it sinks below the horizon.

The event makes for a very cool shot - if - the clouds cooperate and you can successfully beat out the hundreds of photographers who jostle for position on some of the best intersections and are all trying to get the same shot. Makes for an interesting night in the city.

I got to this intersection early, 34th Street and Park Avenue, and snapped this with my iPhone. Little did I know it would turn out to be my favorite shot of the night.

As the minutes towards sunset ticked by, more and more photographers arrived, and the anticipation ratcheted upwards. Would the clouds cooperate? Would everyone be able to stand in the same spot at the same time to get the same shot?

The answer to the first was barely and the answer to the second was, um, no. But hey, I came, I saw, I snapped!
