St Leonard's Church, Rodney Stoke, Rodney Chapel I

            St Leonard’s is a parish church of the Church of England’s Diocese of Bath and Wells in the Somerset village of Rodney Stoke (pop. 1,333), at the foot of the Mendips, 5 miles/8 km from Wells and 3 miles/5 km from Cheddar.

It is a Grade I listed building, particularly for the north side chapel, dedicated to the Rodney family and containing a fine collection of memorials and monuments from 1478 to 1659. It is a fine Norman building beyond that, with a typical English village church story—built around 1175, extended in the 15th Century and, unfortunately, ‘restored’ in or around 1879. It has a particularly fine collection of furnishings from the brief period of High Church Laudian dominance around the 1620s and 1630s.
