Autumn in the Hudson River Valley - 13

This shot is from Kykuit, the estate of John D. Rockefeller Sr. and four generations of that family. The 40-room home was completed in 1913. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976. In 1979, its occupant, Nelson Rockefeller, bequeathed upon his death his one-third interest in the estate to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. As a result, Kykuit is now open to the public for tours conducted by Historic Hudson Valley. The magnificent home is filled one of the finest art collections in the world and the grounds are spectacular. As a point of interest, at the time the home was built, John D. Rockefeller was reported to be the richest man in the world but his home was "modest" compared to the 204-room mansion built by his brother nearby.
