On The Roof

            This is a snap of my mum with her work colleagues on the roof of Australia House in central London. She's the one at front left wearing the lightest dress.

She worked there during the war years. The first job she had was working for  a manufacturing chemist. Subsequently worked for the Ministry of Food (hated it), Australian Government, Royal Australian Air Force and Odeon Cinemas. All of these were in London, although the Odeon relocated her to Cookham in Berkshire as it was safer than the capital. 

My mum stopped working once the war was over, and soon became a mother (in 1948). My Dad did not want her to work, such was the attitude in those days.
