Black-necked Stilts 8901 - a photo on Flickriver

            I can thing of nothing better for a Saturday morning that this shot of two Black-necked Stilts feeding in opposite directions from this morning. I said that I had a good day, and indeed I did.

The black-necked stilt (Himantopus mexicanus) is a locally abundant shorebird of American wetlands and coastlines. It is found from the coastal areas of California through much of the interior western United States and along the Gulf of Mexico as far east as Florida, then south through Central America and the Caribbean to Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands. 

I still have one goal with these birds: I want an in-flight image of one of the three flocks that inhabit the pond before they continue on their migration in March. Every once in a while I get lucky as with the flight of the Semipalmated Plovers in the same pond five or six years ago. Meanwhile, I'll take what I can get, and this wasn't bad.
