The Dragon Head of Dragin from Klaksvík

            This photo is from last year, taken at the Faroe Regatta in July 2010. It is now time for this tradition once more, they start on Thursday in Klaksvík, where the sail ship Dragin is from, they will sail to Runavík and then to Tórshavn where Westward Ho and Norðlýsið are from. On Friday they will sail to my island Suðuroy, where the smack Johanna TG326 is from, but not to the home town of Johanna, in stead they will sail to Tvøroyri, which used to be one of the most important fishing harbours in the old days with lots of fishing vessels. The four largest wooden sail ships in the Faroe Islands are: Johanna TG 326 from Vágur, built in Sussex, England in 1884. Westward Ho from Tórshavn, built in Grimsby in 1884. Dragin from Klaksvík and Norðlýsið from Tórshavn. The idea with the regatta is to show people around the islands this treasure of Faroese history. People can go along for a trip between two harbours, travelling from one island to another, both Faroese people and travelers from other countries are welcome. In 2012 this event will be from 5 to 9 July.
