Old Faroese Wooden Sail Ships arriving Tórshavn after sailing around the island for 4 days - Olavsoka 2010 - Norðlýsið and Dragin

This photo was taken on Olavsoka Eve from my mother in law's window on Dalagøta in Tórshavn. The old Faroese sail ships have been sailing around the islands the last four days. Today they arrived in Tórshavn just in time for our national holiday Ólavsøka. There will be rowing competions, the final, this afternoon.

Description of the Faroe Regatta 2010:
Faroe Regatta 2010 will start on 25 July 2010 in Tórshavn and ends also in Tórshavn on the Faroese National Festival Ólavsøka on 28 July 2010. We will sail with the old wooden smacks, schooners and other ships, these are called: Westward Ho, Jóhanna TG326, Norðlýsið, Dragin and Fram. People can buy tickets for a day trip for 300 DKK or for all four days for 1000 DKK from the Tourist Information Centers or from the website www.nordlysid.com
The Program:
Day one: The first trip goes from Tórshavn to Suðuroy to Tvøroyri, we leave Tórshavn at 15:00. We will spend the night in Tvøroyri, but you must arrange for accomodation yourself. Day two: The second journey goes from Tvøroyri to Miðvágur on Vágar Island.
Day three: The third day the journey continues to Klaksvík in the Northern Islands, we will visit Vestmanna and Fuglafjørður on our way and pass by Leirvík.
Day four: We leave Klaksvík at 8 o'clock in the morning, we sail to Gøtuvík (the bay of Gøta) and along the coast of Norða and Syðrugøta, we sail along Nólsoy and Argir and finally we arrive in Tórshavn at noon, just in time for the Ólavsøka with the rowing competions and other events.
Tickets: 300 DKK pr. person pr. day or if you wish to travel all four days the price is 1000 DKK pr. person. You can buy food onboard the ships, but you need to arrange for accomodation on land your self. The Tourist Information Centers can also assist you with accomodation.
