The Youth Club in Tvoroyri - Pakkhús 4 - An Old Storage House from 1830'ies

On this photo: Threes Anna and Anna Kirstin Thomsen. Threes Anna is a writer and director from Holland, she makes research in the Faroe Islands for her next novel "Birdisland". She met Anna Kirstin from Tvøroyri, a great person full of ideas and energy. She made delicious food for us and told us the history about this historical environment, which now is restored and used as Youth Club and Cultural Centre. The table on this photo is an original one, it has been used to the work with fish in the old days. Now the children can use it for other purposes.

This photo was taken in Storage House number 4 (Pakkhús 4) in Tvøroyri, which now is restored and used as a Youth Club. This floor is actually not a part of the Youth Club, but the kids who wish to play on instruments are alloved to practice their music up here on the top floor. There are two adults working in the Youth Club, one of them is a designer and the other is a musician, so they teach the children to play guitar, to sew etc. There are also computers, TV etc.

Tvøroyri is one of the larger towns in Suduroy in the Faroe Islands. The storage house is one of the buildings, which was built by the Danish Monopoly Store in 1830'ies and 1840'ies, and sold to the Dane Thomas Frederik Thomsen in 1856. Tvøroyri didn't excist as a settlement until the Royal Danish Monopoly built a shop there. There were two villages east of and west of Tvøroyri, those are called Froðba and Trongisvágur, they have now grown together with Tvøroyri. The first building, which was built in Tvøroyri was the Monopoly Shop, which now is a café, pub and museum, it was built in 1836. The Old Shop was a grocery shop until 2005.
