Massing - Unit Axon - Three Room Unit - Fast 05

First project for studio this quarter: assigned research on a precedent example of architect-designed collective housing. Very similar assignment and format to last quarter's research assignment (the one for which I did the Scarpa house).

John favors a cartoony graphic design (specifically pointing us to one of my all-time favorite music videos, Royksopp's Remind Me), so I've jumped back into the arms of my old friend SketchUp to put together a relatively simple 3D representation of my assigned building. This is Rem Koolhaas/OMA's contribution to the 1991 Nexus Housing development in Fukuoka, Japan. Specifically, we're looking at one single unit in the scheme - each is a self-contained house-oid in a concrete box. Each unit has a private entrance on the ground floor, from which you proceed upwards within the unit. Because of this, there is no need for circulation corridors - making this an infinitely extensible matte/mat building. More to come later!
