I never do self portraits, as you know. This was a lighting test that ultimately turned into a self portrait session. I think I might do more self portraits from now on. not because I want to see my own mug on my flickr stream, but because I actually learned so much during this shoot. Not to mention how hard it was to do this without a cable release or a remote (lost my D40 remote). I'm having tons of fun shooting manual and going manual on the strobes too.

What I was trying to accomplish here was a high fashion-like ad. something one might see kenneth cole or hugo boss do with their ad. moody, somewhat dark, somewhat arrogant (perhaps), etc. I guess an ad for liquor might be similar too. I think you get the point.

1 NIkon D40 (yes, unfortunately my D300 is in the shop getting fixed)
1 SB-800 on camera (commander only) driving the SB-600
1 SB-600 at 1/4 shot through umbrella, camera left
1 Floor lamp providing the tiniest of light to my left (I had a seperate SB-600 for this but it was too powerful for the effect I wanted (even at 1/64).

BTW, flickr has, as usual, butchered the colors and contrast, etc. You MUST see this using this link above (it's a bit better, but still not the way it's meant to be seen).
