Thunder Struck - a photo on Flickriver

Thunder Struck

            Since long i had the desire to Photograph a thunder, i had couple of occasion before also to capture that but those somehow didnt turn out to be right. So here came this season of thunder and storms and i was all set again to hit that chasing the storm now or never :) . 
This shot was taken couple of weeks back just before my Meghalaya trip, i was following the weather forecast to know around when i will get that perfect storm accompanied with bolts. So it was a weekday which i narrowed on with forecast of some very strong thunder storm activity around the evening time, perfect that was to capture those bolts. I left from my office around 3 pm for Chatla, the seasonal wetland near the place i stay. When i reached it was quite sunny and thought is that storm really gonna happen or its gonna just drizzle a bit or nothing at all... 
I took out my camera and was taking some casual shots soon in the distant horizon i could see some clouds that were building up i kept my finger crossed. Within no time winds started to blow with clouds coming in with thunder activity but that time it was quite bright to capture those bolts and i was very disappointed as it started to rain very heavily and i thought another effort gone for vain. I ran to the shelter of my car and was waiting in anticipation, it rained quite heavily for sometime and it was dark by then and when it stopped i came out of car just to find out another spell of clouds and storm forming in the distance soon i setup my tripod and camera and framed a scene where i thought the thunder activity might happen kept a piece of cloth to wipe the lens as it was drizzling. The thunder activity again started as i anticipated, lots of tries and failed attempt to hit the shutter in right time actually pretty much of guess work goes behind taking this kind of shot. Finally i got the winner and here it is. One piece of advice before one hits to photograph this try to position yourself in a dry place and try to have as much as possible less of metal gear...
