Goldfinch Separates Husk From Fluff - a photo on Flickriver

            All the finches pull the fluffy part out of the thistle "flower" and separate the husk. Look closely to see the husk in this male's beak. He slides the beak sideways and the small black seed is eaten.

Often, the husk just flies away with the fluff to plant yet another invasive  weed is born.
