Flames Across the Bay - a photo on Flickriver

            As photography has taken a backseat for the last six weeks, and I have not been on a photo shoot since South Carolina, I decided to look at some old files and choose a shot to post. I have often looked at this particular image which I took back at the beginning of the year, but always decided to pass it up. What was different this time was I thought of a title for the image first and decided that was a good enough reason to process this shot for posting.

I remember being excited that morning when I noticed this sky developing. Unfortunately, due to the darkness I could not find a good spot to capture this scene from. After hiking around for about an hour, I hurried back to the road with only enough time to quickly set up and take a few exposures before the color in the sky started to disappear. With no time to attach a filter to my lens, my plan was to select an aperture of f/8, and underexpose enough, so I could record the fiery color in the sky.
