            The newest bridge over the Thames spans the river just down the bank from the Globe, leading straight from the enormous hulk of the Tate Modern on the south bank to the foothills of St. Paul's Cathedral in the city.  It is such an obvious and naturaly place to build a bridge that is seems shocking nobody had thought to do it before the turn of the millennium, but that's when it was built, in honor of Queen Elizabeth's golden jubilee.  Thus it is officially known as the London Millennium Footbridge.  Its more vernacular name, however, is the Wibbly-Wobbly, because when it was first unveiled, such an enormous throng of Londoners flooded onto it that the span palpable wiggled and swayed from side to side, prompting its closure for redesign after only a single day.  It no longer wibbles and wobbles, but it remains the Wibbly-Wobbly, which is just about the cutest name I've ever heard.  I can personally attest to this, since I trekked over it after I visited the Tate so as to pay my respects to the grand dome of St. Paul and Sir Christopher Wren's magnum opus up close and personal.
