Aurora Borealis N60844 JBER 0746 - a photo on Flickriver

It's early Christmas Morning 2013 and God blessed the residents of The Last Frontier with clear skies and a brilliant and active Aurora show!

This image was taken at Six Mile Lake located on Elmendorf AFB and is in a sequence of shots I took for over an hour hoping to put together a time lapse video of the event (which can be seen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=89_EvYJh5dQ). I had my camera set up on a tripod and my camera set on the 10s delay'd timer. Exposure time was 13s which gave me enough time to walk back to my car and flash the high beams to illuminate the Cessna A185F in the foreground.

So thankful to have finally been able to get the combination of an active Aurora and clear skies to capture one of the greatest phenomenon you'll ever experience!
