Carte géographique ( Araschnia levana )

            C'est une curiosité, ce papillon existe sous deux formes de colorations différentes qui correspondent aux deux générations qui se succèdent, l'une printanière et l'autre estivale. les imagos de la première génération ont les ailes orangées avec des tâches noires (forme levana) , ceux de la deuxième génération ont les ailes noires avec des tâches blanches et des tirets orangés (forme prorsa). Les deux formes sont par contre identiques pour leur face inférieure qui présente un aspect réticulé avec secteurs de couleurs différentes et qui évoque réellement une carte géographique. Pour chaque génération, mâles et femelles sont identiques.

It is a curiosity, this butterfly exists in two forms of different colors which correspond to the two generations which follow one another, one spring and the other summer. the imagos of the first generation have orange wings with black spots (levana form), those of the second generation have black wings with white spots and orange dashes (prorsa form). The two forms are however identical for their lower face which presents a reticulated aspect with sectors of different colors and which really evokes a geographical map. For each generation, males and females are identical.
