Lièvre d'Europe ( Lepus europaeus )

            L'habitat du lièvre est à même le sol, dans les champs cultivés, les haies, les lisières de bois où il crée son gîte tel une cuvette légèrement creusée dans les herbes ou la terre. Les grandes superficies de monocultures (céréales...), lui conviennent mieux que les prés pâturés par des vaches dans lesquels il est trop à découvert. La femelle met bas dans son gîte où elle s'occupe seule des petits.
Le lièvre est solitaire et son espace vital s'étend sur 3 à 6 km². Il sort la nuit pour se nourrir car il est lucifuge mais il se rencontre aussi dans la journée, surtout le matin et le soir.

The habitat of the hare is on the ground, in the cultivated fields, the hedges, the edges of wood where it creates its lodging like a bowl slightly dug in the grass or the ground. The large areas of monocultures (cereals, etc.) are better suited to it than pastures grazed by cows in which it is too exposed. The female calves in her house where she deals only with the young.
