Palms on the Dunes

            As lovely as this looks, I'd never walk down below the wooden walkways because all those palmetto palms are loaded with rattlesnakes and even coral snakes! Believe it or not, Ponce Inlet and neighboring New Smyrna beach directly across the inlet, have both had rattlers not only on the beaches, but even in the ocean! I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen Youtube videos of them swimming! (As if Jaws wasn't enough to keep you out of the water!) 

Nevertheless, this is one of the prettiest places in the entire Daytona Beach area, and probably the preferred beach of the locals, mostly because it is less populated. In many areas of Daytona, driving is permitted, and in the resort areas, there is non stop traffic during the peak tourist seasons. Ponce Inlet is a lovely, and more remote getaway that offers more interesting vistas than seen along the rest of the coastline.
