My new love, the Tudor Black Bay 58, had been catching my eye for about a week or two before I finally made the decision to acquire it.
This newfound obsession began when I had to send in my Panerai Luminor Daylight PAM 356 for servicing. To my disbelief, the service was going to take over 25 weeks and cost close to $2000 (with $1300 for the service, $150 for shipping to Toronto, approximately $250 for polishing, plus taxes, and so on).
Coincidentally, my 14-year-old Stussy Crewsader also needed servicing because it was struggling to keep time.
This set me on a quest to find a new, high-quality watch. I considered the Rolex Submariner and the Oyster Perpetual 41 (with a green dial), but they were all out of stock, and there was no indication of when new stock would arrive. I also didn't want to pay double for used ones.
I also explored new Panerai models, specifically the Panerai PAM 1383 and PAM 01294, but I wasn't too fond of their style. I thought they looked too dressy.
I had never really considered Tudor, but after a few quick Google searches, I stumbled upon the Black Bay collection and became particularly intrigued by the BB54. I promptly paid a visit to the Tudor store on Alberni to see it in person, but to my disappointment, the BB54 was out of stock. So, I turned my attention to the BB58 (the last one available), and I found its size just right. I couldn't imagine going for the BB54, as it's a bit smaller at 37mm. I left the store with the BB58 firmly etched in my mind, and that night, after conducting some research, I was determined to make the purchase. The following day, I woke up feeling a bit anxious, fearing that someone might snatch it before I could.
The BB58 had just arrived a few days earlier, on Thursday, November 2nd, and I managed to acquire it on Sunday, the 5th! Overall, it was a great buying experience. The salespeople there were top-notch. I will definitely return to add another Tudor to my collection
