Today we were hoping to go to Karimun Jawa Islands. We found out after arriving that there is no boat today. Seems like the boat only leaves twice a week from here and twice from Jepara. Returning is the same. So I guess we will be spending a few nights here. Only problem is we have to hope for a cancellation or move to another hotel. Seems like Central Java has some cool stuff to see so I don't mind. The down side is call to prayer. We got a taste of it last night to prepare us for this morning. IT IS SO LOUD! From 4:30-4:45am there is no way to avoid the broadcast from loudspeakers. I think I could distinguish at least six different overlapping broadcasts. Funny thing is we are not even next to a mosque. These are broadcasts from houses. I think neighbors try to out do each other with the loudest system. After the broadcast stopped I could barely here the roosters. I could easily sleep through those, but not the call to prayer.

I expected this to a problem in Malaysia and purposely booked hotels away from mosques. I never heard it at while in a  hotel and rarely heard it while on the street. My best guess is because the country is composed of Indian, Chinese and Malay. Not everyone is a muslim there. However in Indonesia it is closer to 98%, with the exception of hindu Bali. I guess that means broadcast as loud as you can.
