It is covered by a 25 m high, 57 m diameter dome supported by 36 steel arches and topped by a royal crown.
The size of the greenhouse enabled planting tall palm trees.
It was intended for royal receptions.

Le ''Jardin d’hiver'', aussi appelé ''Grande Rotonde'', est une grande serre construite en 1876 pour le roi Léopold II par l’architecte Alfonse Balat.

Elle est couverte d’une coupole de 25 m de haut et de 57 m de diamètre portée par 36 arcs en acier, elle-même surmontée d’une couronne royale. La taille de la serre a permis la plantation de palmiers de haute tige.
Elle fut destinée aux réceptions royales.

NL: Koninklijke serres ''Wintertuin''

De ''Wintertuin'', ook bekend als de ''Grote Rotonde'', is een grote serre gebouwd in 1876 voor Koning Leopold II door architect Alfonse Balat.

Het wordt overdekt door een koepel van 25 meter hoog en 57 meter in diameter, ondersteund door 36 stalen bogen en bekroond door een koninklijke kroon. Dankzij de grootte van de serre konden er hoge palmbomen worden geplant.
Het werd gebruikt voor koninklijke recepties.
