DOLLY SODS WEST VIRGINIA - a photo on Flickriver

            A land of heath barrens, bald meadows and sandstone outcrops await the visitor with thickets of huckleberry, mountain laurel and azalea.  Flagged red spruce stand guard across the landscape in small groups.  All sitting atop the Allegheny Front at an elevation of 4000 feet.  The Sods were in the clouds the week we visited, and they would occasionally lift long enough to give us a glimpse of this special place with lifeforms normally found much further north in Canada.  The view from Bear Rocks south into the high plateau of the Dolly Sods Wilderness.
