Allegheny Spurge - a photo on Flickriver

Allegheny Spurge

            Pachysandra procumbens, one of the spring plants found growing at the Daniel Boone Native Gardens. It grows in rich woods and flowers from March to April. I wasn't sure at first whether the mottled foliage goes with the flowers, but they indeed belong together. Curiously, the inflorescences are emerging from stalks from last year's growth, while the leaves seem to be from fresh growth.
