#NPLD 2016: La Quinta Cove Volunteer Day

            A belated National Public Lands Day event was held at La Quinta Cove on Saturday, November 19, 2016 where over 40 volunteers removed a grand total of 128 bags of invasive fountain grass from surrounding trails. La Quinta Mayor Linda Evans and City Council Member Robert Radi were among the valuable volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to lend a hand.

In addition to removing the fountain grass, volunteers removed 28 bags of trash from the various trails in the Cove and conducted trail maintenance. 

Sponsors for the event included the City of La Quinta, Friends of the Desert Mountains, Bureau of Land Management - California, U.S. Forest Service - San Bernardino National Forest, and Stuft Pizza Bar & Grill Palm Desert, who provided lunch for the participants.

The day was a great showing of volunteerism and community support to clean up and improve this popular entry point into the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument.

Note: This #NPLD event was held later in the year due to normal hot desert temperatures in September.
